Job description

The Production Planner disaggregates the capacity group monthly plan made in partnership with the S&OP Team to build a feasible sku level weekly plan for their manufacturing location(s). They balance supply to demand to meet our inventory strategy and business objectives while maximizing capacity utilization and supporting manufacturing stability.

Production planning is performed at the saleable end item and location level and provides the basis for making good use of manufacturing resources, making customer delivery promises, and attaining the strategic goals as reflected in the S&OP.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage Production Planning (MPS) (50%)

  • Monitor and maintain material requirements planning (MRP) elements, including handling exceptions and taking action to optimize inventory
  • Assure integrity of inventory levels
  • Follow up on past due elements 
  • Review capacity constraints and operations plan on regular basis
  • Complete analysis when actuals deviate from the plan, including root cause and respective action(s) to correct and/or sustain
  • Review, initiate, and execute corrective action on aged and over/under stocked inventory
  • Review and recommend disposition Potential Excess Inventory (PEI)
  • Implement best practices to achieve targets that will enable the company to meet/exceed customer service goals. The key focus on improving customer service levels (On-Time In-Full), while managing to the inventory targets and driving down past dues
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), which may include being a member of the product launch project team and ensuring that the production plan meets the launch plan
  • Support and or lead key projects, with a focus on manufacturing efficiency, customer service level improvement and/or planning process improvements

Planning Execution & Communication (30%)

  • Communicate availability information and resolve issues with customers      (manufacturing/customer service/product marketing)   
  • Maintain open communication across all functional areas
  • Maintain data integrity for planning/purchasing MRP elements
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of materials and take corrective action where necessary
  • Create and maintain production orders; monitor deliveries. Communicate to CSR’s or STO Planner when delivery dates can’t be achieved
  • Determine and communicate solutions to issues
  • Determines material requirements and coordinates the efficient movement of materials with purchasing, production and engineering

S&OP Support (10%)

  • Attend monthly meetings with S&OP Planners to discuss production rates and production mix
  • Attend a minimum of 3 times a year to the Balancing meeting

Master Data/Documentation (10%)

  • Maintain data integrity for production planning master data in company’s ERP system
  • Set up master data for materials
  • Maintain Leader Standard Work / SOP documentation for your portfolio
  • Provide weekly bullets and update on key initiatives

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or supply chain management preferred

Knowledge & Experience:

  • 3 years of planning or related experience in supply chain methodologies (inventory data entry and production experience preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint); data management software/JDE preferred
  • CSCP and/or CPIM APICS certification or the equivalent is preferred
  • Lean, Six Sigma, exposure to theory of constraints preferred

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated skills in organizational, analytical, flexibility, customer focus, quality commitment and good relationships are required
  • Collaborative and effective team player and able to work with teams who are dispersed
  • Solve problems analytically; search out relevant information and gauge its importance when making decisions
  • Strong oral and written communications skills; ability to make effective presentations to audiences of wide variety of technical understanding & able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms
  • Able to complete responsibilities in a timely, professional, and quality manner
  • Results-oriented; commitment to excellence in reporting and business support
  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn; seek out development activities to improve skills and increase knowledge
  • Take initiative, seek, and act on opportunities to improve organization performance
