DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position Overview

The Strategy & Business Development team at Cornerstone Building Brands is looking to add a proven strategic leader - thinker, with strong business acumen and a passion for working cross-functionally in the business. This position will serve as a member of the Growth Office team which oversees Corporate Strategy, Strategic Planning, Market Intelligence, Growth Ventures, Corporate Development (M&A) and Integration for the entire Company. As the leader of Corporate Strategy for the organization, this individual will work directly with Business Unit and Functional Leaders (in conjunction with the rest of the Strategy & Business Development team) to identify key customer, competitive, and market trends, develop strategic plans and priorities, and to launch and oversee key strategic initiatives. This individual will report to the Executive Vice President, Chief Growth Officer, who reports to the CEO and is a member of the Executive Committee. The ideal candidate will lead a dynamic and collaborative team that includes the Senior Manager, Strategic Planning with three additional associates. They must have exceptional interpersonal skills, be able to lead one on one as well as in larger group settings, possess excellent PowerPoint skills, and be capable of handling multiple complex projects simultaneously while coordinating with internal and external resources. Works within a cross-functional matrixed environment which requires leading by influence to accomplish organization-wide goals.

Essential Functions

Corporate Strategy Objectives include:

  • Long term value creation
    • Develop understanding of our customers, markets, competitors, etc (Situational analysis)
    • Drive clarity on how we create competitive advantage (Value Proposition)
    • Answer what is the 3-5 year future state for each business and CBB together to capture maximum value creation (Strategy)
    • How to optimize our portfolio to drive long term value creation and a top tier valution
    • Portfolio Strategy & Optimization
  • Operationalizing strategy
    • Initiative prioritization & sequencing
    • Initiative maturity
    • Capability building (COE or in the business)
    • Resource allocation
    • Visibility to investments in Capital, talent, M&A with strong ROI
  • Strategy work and projects
    • COEs of Market Intel (right data and portfolio views), NPD (innovation council), CFD council, and EIE management
    • Strategy support for BU strategy and initiative development
    • Strategy support for functional strategy and initiative development
    • Strategy work on specific CBB initiatives
    • Managing consulting engagements to maximize project outcomes

Corporate Strategy Job Description:

  • Work with Business and Functional leaders through the ongoing strategic planning process, with key annual dates including the Strategic Planning Conference and the Board Strategy Planning Conference as well as strategic topics presented at monthly Executive Committee meetings and quarterly Board of Director meetings.
  • Responsible for helping create and present the value creation plan for the entire organization as well as supporting the creation of the BU and Functional strategic plans.
  • A key leader of important corporate strategy initiatives, working with cross functional teams from across the organization.
  • This work will include (but not limited to):
    • Corporate Development: As a part of the Strategy & Business Development team, will provide input into markets and products to target, specific businesses to prioritize, and support M&A diligence, valuation, and Board presentations.
    • Board-Level Content Preparation: In conjunction with the activities above, responsible for working closely with senior management, coordinating, and developing Board presentations in support of key strategic outputs.
    • Long Term Value Creation: Spearheading portfolio strategy & optimization efforts to create competitive advantage and capture maximum value creation.
    • Operationalizing Strategy: to include Capability building (COE and BU specific), resource allocation, initiative prioritization, sequencing, and maturity.
    • Strategy Work & Projects: Leading ad-hoc strategic projects with 3rd party consultants and Cornerstone Building Brands associates.

Qualifications

Ideal Experience

  • MBA strongly preferred, Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in the areas of Business or Operations concentration, i.e., Finance, Engineering, Economics, etc.)
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive and varied experience within corporate strategy, strategy consulting, and business operations, including 5+ years of leadership experience above the individual contributor role.
  • People leadership and talent development
  • Scale exposure (what good looks like at scale) as well as how to work collaboratively in a flat/matrix org
  • Skilled in writing and presenting to executive management
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Experience in industrials, manufacturing, and/or building products preferable
