The purpose of this statement is to define the duties and accountabilities for the Drafter I-V, Drafting Supervisor, and Drafting Manager positions. The primary responsibility of these positions is to provide complete and accurate detailing deliverables (drawings, shop details, BOMs, etc.) under the direction of the Engineering Director. These positions require technical knowledge of Commercial Building Systems products, detailing tools including AutoCAD, services, and interdepartmental processes. Also, use of advanced trigonometry and geometry will be required. Education: Associates degree/Certificate in Drafting related program.
These roles are very critical to the Engineering department as they will impact productivity, efficiency, lead times, cost, and ultimately customer satisfaction.
Basic Function
- Provide neat, accurate, and easy-to-follow fabrication documents that follow the design calculations and are within the manufacturing limitations.
- Provide neat and accurate permit, approval and erection drawings that adhere to the requirements of the purchase order and provide detailed information necessary to erect materials.
- Maintain a tight schedule that often has late-addition requirements or changes in priority.
- Communicate needs and difficulties to all members of the team to assure quick disposition of problems.
- Promptly return calls, e-mails and other correspondence that may originate from customers, design, or manufacturing when they require assistance at no cost to the schedule.
- Provide expertise to quickly solve field problems and provide the necessary documentation to customer service at no cost to the schedule.
- Continually improve productivity, accuracy and ability.
- Make it a priority to advance the capabilities of those that are lesser experienced.
- Protect the company's interest when investigating field modifications.
- Work extra hours to move forward on a deadline when asked to.
- Understand the role in the overall system and be willing to step outside that role when required.
- Provide and/or receive back checking comments as an integral part of growth & training.
Drafter I
- This role focuses on developing drafting skills and product knowledge to work in the most productive manner without loss of accuracy or completeness.
- Cornerstone Engineering’s drafting and product standards, as well as software will be learned in conjunction with drafting procedures
- Detail building complexities 1 to 5.
- This role will require learning ways to help in the reduction of manufacturing cost, increased ease of erection and customer value from senior staff members.
- The implementation of company standards and compliance is a key responsibility.
- Entry level, no prior experience in metal buildings.
Drafter II
- This role will require the ability to perform with minimal supervision and to manage his/her own projects to assure on-time completion
- It is required to expand personal knowledge of the Cornerstone Engineering drafting standards, software, processes and procedures and adapt them to varied conditions required by customers.
- Check the work of Drafter 1 may be required.
- Minimum of 1-year metal building drafting experience or related field.
Drafter III
- Detail building complexities up to class 10
- Mentor less experienced Drafters
- The focus of this role is continuous productivity improvements without loss of accuracy or completeness, reduction of manufacturing cost, increased ease of erection and added customer value.
- Manage several ongoing projects through the shop and through erection completion is required along with the ability to manage individual efforts on several overlapping projects.
- Minimum of 2-years metal building drafting experience or related field.
Drafter IV
- This role requires mastery of the highest complexity work.
- Train and mentor less experienced Drafters
- Use Drafting expertise to help coordinate building projects
- Minimum of 5-years metal building drafting experience or related field.
Drafter V
- This role requires demonstrated mastery of the standards, processes, procedures and software of Cornerstone Engineering for the entire product offering of Cornerstone Buildings while providing focus on accuracy of product, on time delivery and added customer value.
- This position requires demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills for subordinates, peers and associates.
- Minimum of 7-years metal building drafting experience or related field with demonstrated leadership skills.
