Job Description

Position Summary

The EHS Coordinator & Advanced First Aid Attendant is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs while serving as the site’s designated advanced first aid responder. This role ensures compliance with Alberta legislation, promotes a strong safety culture, and provides immediate medical response and case management for workplace injuries and illnesses.

Key Responsibilities

•              Health & Safety Program Coordination - Support and maintain the site’s EHS management system in alignment with Alberta OHS legislation by being the subject matter expert, assisting in hazard identification, risk assessments, and controls, coordinating incident investigations and corrective actions, maintaining COR compliance, and tracking and reporting key safety metrics.

•              First Aid and Medical Response - Act as the site’s designated Advanced First Aid Attendant by providing emergency response, treatment, and stabilization, managing first aid resources, coordinating medical transport, making recommendations, and maintaining accurate and confidential treatment records.

•              Injury Management & WCB Coordination - Lead injury triage and early intervention while coordinating modified work and return-to-work programs, enter & maintain Workers’ Compensation claims, monitoring trends to support cost reduction, and partnering with Human Resources and supervisors on workplace accommodations.

•              Training & Safety Culture - Deliver safety training and support supervisors with toolbox talks and safety meetings while acting as a frontline safety resource and promoting a proactive, behavior-based safety culture.

•              Compliance & Auditing - Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Alberta OHS codes and regulations, while maintaining audit and inspection documentation and supporting external audits and COR certification and recertification, collaboration with regulatory agencies; support the Joint Health & Safety Committee training, scheduling. 

•              Emergency Preparedness - Maintain and test emergency response plans while coordinating drills and participating in incident command during emergencies.

•              Other duties as assigned by the EHS Manager.

Other Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory while striving for excellence.  The requirements listed below are a representative of the knowledge, skill, and/ or ability required.

  • Education and/ or Experience – 2- 5 years of EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial environments, High School diploma or equivalent; Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or related field (preferred); Advanced First Aid Certification or be able to obtain within 3 weeks of employment; Experience with WCB claims, modified work, and return-to-work programs; Experience in unionized environments (asset); 1 – 2 years facilitating EHS training; Strong knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation and best practices; Solid understanding of incident investigation and root cause analysis, Ability to handle medical emergencies calmly and effectively
  • Language Skills – English skills are required to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, memos, and verbal communication, etc.; Ability to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Mathematical Skills – Ability to understand, accurately record perform simple mathematical calculations – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. 
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions, identify root causes and develop solutions; Ability to deal with standardized situations with variables.
  • Influencing Skills – Ability to manage conflict/change/negotiation management situations with professionalism and minimal collateral damage.
  • Computer Skills – Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Work, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required; Working knowledge of Origami is considered an asset.
  • Physical Demands – Sitting for long periods of time, prolonged computer use and screen time.
  • Work Environment - Continuous and constant noise that is above 80dBA (loud).  Hearing protection is mandatory and will be provided; annual hearing tests are completed.  Above normal temperatures in manufacturing areas.  Some exposure to airborne particles within allowable limits.

This position is fully on site at our location at: 7140 40 St SE, Calgary AB T2C 2B6

Hours: 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm. Monday to Friday (Some flexibility may be required during the training period).
