Position Title: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Technician I

Status: Non-Exempt 

Department: Production Overhead 

Reports to: Plant Manager 

Overview: The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Technician provides administrative and technical support for all EHS programs within the plant. This role is responsible for assisting in the implementation, documentation, and maintenance of compliance programs related to occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations. Key focus areas include training coordination, testing program support (e.g., fit testing, hearing conservation), certification tracking, safety data maintenance, and general EHS recordkeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and maintains records for EHS-related training, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Administers and supports employee health programs including respiratory fit testing, audiometric testing, and medical surveillance coordination.
  • Tracks and manages employee certifications (e.g., powered industrial truck, CPR/First Aid, LOTO) and communicates expiration/renewal timelines.
  • Assists in maintaining OSHA logs, internal safety reports, incident records, and other required documentation.
  • Supports the EHS team in conducting inspections, audits, and risk assessments; documents findings and follows up on corrective actions.
  • Maintains and updates Safety Data Sheet (SDS) records and ensures compliance with hazard communication requirements.
  • Assists in onboarding activities related to EHS orientation and compliance for new hires and contractors.
  • Manages PPE inventory levels, tracks distribution, and coordinates with procurement or vendors as necessary, to include safety footwear, uniforms, etc.
  • Supports emergency preparedness efforts, including drill scheduling, participation tracking, and documentation.
  • Provides general administrative support to the plant leadership team including scheduling, reporting, and filing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support environmental, health, and safety objectives.

Qualifications

 Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in an administrative, or safety support role in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and familiarity with learning management or EHS systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods within a plant environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Capability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) during plant activities.
  • Occasional exposure to industrial environments including noise, dust, and temperature variations.
