JOB DETAILS

Base Pay: $22.50 per hour, plus $1.15 per hour shift differential

5th Shift: Friday-Saturday 11 pm-11 am and Saturday-Sunday, 11 pm-11 am, plus two 8-hour shifts during the week (11 pm-7 am)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee loads and operates a network of machinery to blend raw materials into compounds for extrusion.  Employee maintains consistency of raw materials from batch to batch.  Employee ensures clean flow of materials from railcars, silos, and hoppers.  Employee monitors blend network for proper operation.  Employee trains in the use of many computer programs utilized by the Blend department.

  • Ensure consistency of raw materials and proper weight and balance of blended materials to create extrusion compounds using computerized monitoring system
  • Operate and monitor computerized blending network
  • Analyse printouts to ensure output of compounds and extruders meets or exceeds defined standards
  • Adjust system to correct inconsistencies and maximize production utilization
  • Manually move railcars to unloading sites, if necessary
  • Unload railcars ensuring that outflow valves are properly adjusted
  • Prepare railcars (receiving, releasing, spotting) and processes and Employee paperwork
  • Ensure all blend equipment, including gates, scales, motors, temperature gauges, AMP gauges, etc., are in sequence with formulation requirements and are in proper working order
  • Daily maintain clean and orderly work area, including control room, blend tower, silos and railcar areas
  • Perform preventive maintenance checks and submit abnormalities to Maintenance with appropriate work orders
  • Assist maintenance when necessary
  • Enter all data regarding blend operations by recording previous shift totals into BPCS and blend production spreadsheets
  • Stage and stock daily all micro-ingredients required.  Restock upper blend level, hoppers, and change totes before shift’s completion
  • Operate forklift and do forklift safety/damage inspection checks as required by Supervisor
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required
  • Perform month-end inventories
  • Actively participate in all plant safety programs, depending on location.
  • Perform Extrusion Employee 1 functions as needed

    Qualifications

    • Must have ability to obtain motorized equipment license
    • Must be able to operate forklift equipment safely
    • Must have good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity
    •  Must be able to learn to work with computer systems and can gain computer skills to interface with Interline and BPCS
    • Must have good communication skills and the ability to interact with people
    • Must have good organization skills
    • Must be able to keep colours separate and record weights accurately
    • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on a continual basis above shoulder height and below the waist and ability to team lift 51lbs to 100lbs
    • Daily climbing to the top of materials silo is required (90 feet)
    • Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to equipment noise, temperature extremes, and dust
    • Position requires continual walking, standing, pulling, climbing, stairs, lifting, twisting, and bending
    • Battery charger; calculator; computer terminal; digital scales; forklift; motorized equipment; various hand tools; safety glasses; hearing protection; apron; gloves and steel-toed shoes, if necessary
    • Safe work performance is always required from each Employee
    • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a safe manner in accordance with applicable Health and Safety Manuals
    • Required to wear or use personal protective equipment as applicable and to immediately report unsafe working conditions
