Cornerstone Building Brands is looking for an Indirect Tax Specialist to join our Houston, TX office. This role is part of our corporate team and reports to the Tax Manager. This role will work a couple of days out of the month from our Houston office.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reconcile all sales and use tax accounts between the general ledger and tax software to prepare for monthly compliance
- Ensure all state and local jurisdictional sales and use tax returns and payments are filed in a timely manner
- Prepare and provide payment requests to Accounts Payable for sales and use tax returns
- Prepare reconciliations and variance explanations by state for assigned general ledger accounts
- Load and index all returns and reconciliations into internal document storage software
- File claims for refund and amend sales and use tax returns for outstanding sales and use tax credits
- Administer manual use tax accrual process
- Review and research applicable tax statutes, regulations, and administrative rulings necessary to resolve tax audit and compliance matters
- Timely respond to inquiries by internal and external parties
- Other projects and tasks arising as necessary
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of three years of experience for multi-state sales and use tax compliance
- Operational knowledge of Vertex Indirect Tax O Series and Vertex Indirect Tax Returns software strongly preferred
- Experience with Oracle ERP accounting systems a plus
- Proficient using complete Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills required
- Self-motivated individual who is a team player, follows through on all assignments, advocates for the interests of the tax team, and thrives working in a fast-paced environment with critical deadlines
- Must be dependable and self-sufficient
