Job Summary:
The Journeyman Millwright & Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing both mechanical and electrical systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment. This role ensures machinery, equipment, and electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled professional with expertise in both mechanical and electrial disciplines, capable of working independently or as part of a maintenance team
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical (Millwright) Duties:
- Install, assemble, and align machinery and mechanical systems according to blueprints and specifications.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on industrial equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues, diagnose problems, and implement solutions promptly.
- Fabricate, modify, and repair machine components as needed.
- Operate hoisting and lifting equipment safely during installations or repairs.
Electrical Duties:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, wiring, lighting, motors, and control systems.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems, including machinery and building systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Perform preventative maintenance on electrical equipment to minimize downtime.
General Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other maintenance personnel and departments to ensure minimal production downtime.
- Maintain accurate records of mechanical and electrical work completed.
- Ensure all work follows company safety policies, regulatory standards, and local codes.
- Mentor apprentices or junior tradespeople as required.
- Comply with all Health & Safety policies, procedures and PPE requirements.
- Journeyman (Red Seal) Millwright/ Journeyman Electrician certification – dual certifications considered an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial machinery, electrical systems, controls, motors and PLC.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and electrical testing equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong teamwork abilities.
- Physical ability to lift, climb, and work in confined spaces when necessary.
Working Conditions:
- Work primarily in industrial, manufacturing, or commercial environments.
- May require overtime, shift work, or on-call availability.
- Exposure to noise, dust, heavy machinery, electrical hazards, and variable temperatures.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety regulations and emergency procedures
- Valid Arial Work Platform Safety Training certificate considered an asset.
- Valid Fall Protection certificate valid Forklift certificate considered an asset.
