The Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting manufacturing processes for North Star’s window and door product lines. This role plays a key part in ensuring that production operations run efficiently, safely, and consistently while meeting quality standards and cost targets.
Working closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Maintenance teams, the Process Engineer will evaluate current processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement solutions that enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve overall equipment effectiveness. This includes analyzing workflows, cycle times, and production data to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
The Process Engineer will also be responsible for designing, specifying, and implementing manufacturing equipment, tooling, and automation systems. This may involve supporting the integration of new technologies, troubleshooting production issues, and ensuring equipment is optimized for maximum performance and reliability.
A critical aspect of this role is supporting new product launches by collaborating with Product Engineering to ensure designs are compatible with existing manufacturing processes and capabilities. The Process Engineer will develop and document standard operating procedures, work instructions, and process parameters to ensure consistent production and quality outcomes.
Additionally, the role involves participating in cost-reduction initiatives, conducting time studies, and contributing to value stream mapping and Lean manufacturing efforts. The Process Engineer will also support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to production or quality issues.
Collaboration with other Cornerstone facilities is expected, along with occasional travel across Canada and the United States to support projects, share best practices, and align manufacturing standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput
- Design, develop, and implement tooling, fixtures, and automated systems
- Support new product introductions and ensure manufacturability of designs
- Conduct time studies, capacity analysis, and cost evaluations
- Lead or support continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including SOPs and work instructions
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams
- Participate in equipment selection, installation, and commissioning
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices
- Demonstrated ability to execute projects in a timely fashion from initial requests to final implementation.
- Able to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Proven strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience in Database Management, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- A sound working knowledge of CAD and 3D modeling software.
- Understanding of costing and time studies as it relates to Value Stream improvements.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing tools is an asset.
- Architectural or Fenestration industry knowledge is an asset.
- Knowledge of applicable fenestration and building codes in an asset.
- Post-secondary school education in a related Engineering discipline.
- Ability to design, specify, and implement manufacturing equipment and automation systems to improve productivity and product consistency.
- Ideally 3 years of Process/CI Engineering experience. New graduates will be considered.
