Job Description

The Sr. Tax Coordinator is a senior-level tax professional responsible for managing complex sales and use tax compliance activities across multiple jurisdictions. This role serves as a subject-matter expert, ensuring accurate tax reporting, supporting audits, and providing guidance on taxability, exemptions, and process improvements. The position works cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, and Operations to maintain compliance and reduce tax risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and interpret sales and use tax laws, regulations, and rulings to ensure compliance
  • Serve as a point of escalation for complex taxability issues, nexus determinations, and exemption analysis
  • Assist with sales tax audits, including document preparation, auditor communication, and issue resolution
  • Review and maintain exemption certificates; ensure proper documentation and compliance
  • Reconcile tax accounts, identify discrepancies, and resolve variances
  • Assist with system implementations, tax engine configuration, and ongoing maintenance (e.g., ERP or tax automation tools)
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and assess impact on the business
  • Develop and document tax processes, controls, and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior tax staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field (required)
  • CPA, CMI, or other relevant tax certification (preferred)
  • 5+ years of sales and use tax experience, preferably in a multi-state environment
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. sales and use tax laws and compliance requirements
  • Experience assisting with Sales tax audits and interacting with tax authorities
  • Proficiency tax software (e.g. Vertex)
  • Advanced Excel skills; ability to analyze large data sets
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in a corporate or shared services environment
  • Exposure to indirect tax planning and process automation

Additional Information

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $45,000-$65,000 + medical, dental, vision benefits starting day 1 + 401k and PTO. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. (Full-time is defined as regularly working 30+ hours per week.)
