Job Description

Role Overview

The Transportation Fleet Manager owns the divisional fleet strategy from end-to-end — safety, compliance, performance, people leadership, cost optimization, and operational execution — while partnering with a growing enterprise fleet team overseeing 1,500+ total assets across Cornerstone Building Brands. This role requires someone who can independently carry large, highly detailed initiatives from start to finish while operating effectively in a matrixed enterprise environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a fleet professional who understands both the operational and administrative realities of running a compliant, high-performing fleet and who can serve as the authoritative point of contact for FMCSA and DOT matters within the division.

The role partners closely with the Enterprise Fleet team and directly supports one Fleet Specialist responsible for day-to-day operations.

This is a remote position preferably in Eastern or Central Time zones.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Leadership and Execution

  • Owns the end-to-end fleet operations across heavy-duty, medium-duty, and light-duty assets including tractors, trailers, box trucks, pickups, vans, and plant support vehicles
  • Drive fleet strategy, lifecycle planning, equipment standards, telematics adoption, and utilization improvements
  • Lead complex fleet projects requiring high attention to detail, follow-through, and cross-functional coordination
  • Align divisional fleet practices with enterprise fleet standards and long-term transformation initiatives
  • Serve as the escalation point for fleet-related operational issues impacting service, safety, or customers

Safety, Compliance, and Regulatory Authority

  • Act as the division’s subject matter expert for FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and state-level compliance for both CDL and non-CDL fleets
  • Ensure consistent execution of driver qualification files, Hours of Service, MVR monitoring, coaching standards, and corrective actions
  • Partner with EHS and Legal to reduce preventable incidents and strengthen safety culture
  • Lead fleet compliance activities related to audits, investigations, and regulatory inquiries

Administration, Integration, and Governance

  • Oversee fleet administration including registrations, titling, permits, IRP IFTA, 2290, and authority maintenance
  • Lead fleet integration activities for acquisitions including DOT updates, filings, and compliance alignment
  • Ensure fleet data integrity, reporting accuracy, and adherence to enterprise governance standards

Financial and Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cost per mile analysis, and cost optimization initiatives
  • Collaborate with Operations, Sales, HR, Finance, Supply Chain, and Plant Leadership to support business needs
  • Influence leaders and teams without direct authority in a matrix environment

    Qualifications

    Required

    • 8 to 10 plus years leading multi-site fleet operations across heavy-duty, medium-duty, and light-duty assets
    • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex, detail-heavy initiatives from planning through execution
    • Deep working knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and state regulatory requirements
    • Proven success operating in matrixed organizations and influencing without direct authority
    • Strong executive function, organization, and prioritization skills
    • Data-driven decision maker with experience using telematics, maintenance data, and KPIs
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fleet technology platforms
    • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain, Business, or related field

    Preferred

    • Experience managing fleets of 75 plus power units and significant LD MD populations
    • Background in manufacturing, building materials, or private fleet environments
    • Acquisition or integration experience
    • Industry certifications such as CTP, CDS, CLTD, CTL, or Six Sigma
